We see ingrown toenails all day!
You do not have to put up with them. At HPS we are always looking for solutions and Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) is definitely one of them. No general anaesthetic, weeks off work, stitches or excruciating pain.
Partial Nail Avulsion or more commonly abbreviated to PNA, is a minor nail surgery procedure performed in the clinic by our podiatrist. It is commonly used as a long term solution to chronic, persistent or highly sensitive ingrown toenails. PNA’s have a great success rate and minimal time out of action.
A PNA is performed in our rooms using a local anaesthetic. We are then able to remove the small portion of nail which is causing the issue without any pain. To ensure there is no nail regrowth a chemical is used to cauterise the nail bed so no nail returns, resulting in a permanent solution. This cauterises the nerve endings and blood vessels, so is usually quite pain-free following the procedure.
A PNA usually only requires 24 hours of reduced weight-bearing activities simply to avoid disrupting the nail edges and to speed things along. We review things closely and give you the tools to avid infection and optimise healing.
The procedure usually take 2-3 weeks to completely heal, though in that time you can still work, exercise and wear closed in shoes.
If you suffer from ingrown toenails and would like more information please call and speak to our friendly staff or book an appointment with one of our podiatrist to find out if you are eligible for this procedure.
